One of the best-known creatures is the centaur. This half-man, a half-horse creature, appeared in many stories from mythology and remains popular in fantasy stories to this day.

How to Draw a Centaur – let’s get Initiated!

    Step 1

In this first step of our guide on how to draw a centaur, we’ll start with the creature’s human head. For his face, we’ll use curved lines for his eyes, nose, and mouth to give him an intense expression showing he’s serious. We’ll also give him a bushy beard, and then you can also give him a spiky mohawk in the center of the top of his head. Finish by drawing his pointy ears, and then we can continue to the second step of the guide.

    Step 2

For the second part of this centaur drawing, we’ll add his shoulders and chest along with some of the armor he’s wearing on his chest. You can start this armor by drawing a circle on his chest and then adding some details to it. Then remove four straps coming out of it. Two will go over his shoulders and two around the side of his chest. Finish off this step by using curvier lines for the shoulder and chest details, and then we can move on to the next step!

    Step 3

This third step of our guide to drawing a centaur will start with some details on his hair. Just remove some slightly curved lines on the sides of the hairstyle to add some textural information.

Next, we will draw a large triangular shape. For the armor’s base, you can add some details to the inside of this shape. Then you can remove the sides of the belt and add some circles to it for big studs. Finish off by drawing some line details on the waist of his armor to close out this third step.

    Step 4

In the next step, we will finish the human part of this centaur drawing. First, we’ll use some more curved lines for his muscular arms and then add some jagged lines for the bracelets on his wrists. His right arm will hold a long spear; you might want to use a ruler for that! We’ll also draw a few more sections that fall from the belt before we continue with step 5.

    Step 5

As mentioned in the previous part of this guide on how to draw a centaur, we are now done with the human aspects of the creature. For this part, we will focus on the front legs of the centaur.

These will look like horse legs; you can draw them with slightly curved lines. Try to copy them exactly as they appear in the reference image to make sure they look more realistic. Once you remove these front legs, we’ll add the final details in the next part!

    Step 6

Before coloring your centaur drawing, we will first add some details and final elements to finish it off. You can also draw the back of the horse section and add a wavy tail to the back. Then finish by also removing the rear leg of the horse section. This leg will look a bit different from the front legs, so you may want to try and closely copy it as it appears in the reference image.

Then you are ready for the final step of the guide! Before you continue, add any additional details you’d like. Drawing a background is a great way to take a drawing to the next level! What kind of environment would you choose for this impressive centaur? We can’t wait to see it!

    Step 7

This final step in our guide on how to draw a centaur will involve finishing it off with some color. We kept most of the colors fairly muted in our reference image, with the main exception being the armor, where we used some bright yellows.

However, the colors we use in our example are just an example of the colors you can choose from. For this step, you can get creative with the colors you use. You can also have more fun experimenting with new media and artistic tools, so let your creativity flow and see what happens!
